Qualifications

I am a fully qualified counsellor holding an Advanced Diploma in Counselling, a Diploma in Expressive Art Therapy, a Diploma in Casework supervision, a Diploma in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy, certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Interventions and am a British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) accredited counsellor and United Kingdom Register of Counsellors (UKRC) Independent Registered Counsellor, an accredited member of the Counselling Society and an associate member of the National Register of Hypnotherapists and Psychotherapists (NRHP).

I have in excess of 15000 counselling hours and over 2500 hours experience in supervising.

I was born in Chicago, Illinois though have lived in England since I was 14. I am told, by some, that I still have my accent. I trained, initially as a teacher, and then went into business for a while. I came back into teaching and, for twelve years, worked as an Emotional and Behavioural Support teacher, working with young people who were Statemented as having Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD). I taught in a specialist EBD School and also supported other pupils in mainstream schools. It soon became evident to me, at that time, that the students did not seem to appropriate therapeutic intervention to help with their emotional difficulties. I trained as a therapeutic counsellor, in part, to help address this need. I believe my heart has always been in some form of therapeutic work.

In the American system we already had child guidance counsellors in schools and I was fortunate enough to have had positive experience of this to help me through my childhood difficulties. I again experienced benefits of counselling during and after my counselling training which has helped me develop my own philosophy of counselling. I walk alongside my clients with the aim to empower them to their own growth and development. The warmth and value I felt from my own therapist enabled me to start to value myself and to grow in confidence and self-esteem.

I now work with people of all ages and strive to offer the same warmth, care, compassion, value, respect and non judgemental approach that I received.
